The big story in publishing is the rise in popularity of romance and erotica books.

Women are consuming these books like they would one-bite-brownies and they just cannot seem to be able to get enough.

Before the recent buzz around the rise in popularity of romance and erotica books, we were all consuming self-help books by the dozen.

Our obsession as North Americans with these types of “fix-me” books has been immortalized in the iconic series Sex In The City were Charlotte is too embarrassed to bring herself to buy a few self-help books at the store until she discovers she can give in freely to her obsession and devour as many of these books as she’d like as long as she ordered them online.

Self-help books will never die!

As most North Americans, we’ve been brainwashed to continuously improve on our skills, relationships, self-talk, body image, weight, sex life and the list goes on.

It might be tempting to think that you need fancy degrees in order to write a self-help book that sells, but I love how Lina T explains it in the recent interview I did with her.

Your life becomes your badge of honour when you write a self-help book. People don’t want facts. They want to know how you where from where you were (not a good place) to where you are now (a pretty awesome place to be).

People want to see pain, struggle, change and growth, because that’s most likely what they’re going through in their lives.

If you’ve wanted to jump into publishing and didn’t know where to start or if you’ve set aside that book you started months ago, you might want to consider writing a self-help book.
